The Development Project Management Institute is a professional training program designed to prepare those who aspire to engage in humanitarian aid or long-term development work in Africa, Asia, Latin America or anywhere else extensive poverty is present. DPMI provides participants with the skills needed for effective professional practice in an environment that addresses both local and global responses to important development challenges. The DPMI program teaches practical skills such as project design, project monitoring, strategic partnering, and the training of trainers.

Offered three times a year, at three different locations, DPMI provides the flexibility and opportunity for working professionals, students not enrolled at the Monterey Institute, and current Monterey Institute students to participate at the site and time of their choice.

During the summer DPMI is offered in Monterey and Washington, DC with an optional practicum in Quito, Ecuador. DPMI Monterey is offered from May 14 – June 1, 2007 at the Monterey Institute and DPMI DC is offered from May 28-June 15, 2007 in the heart of DC.

There are hundreds of international development organizations headquartered in the Washington, DC area. DPMI DC takes advantage of the location with organizational visits and informational sessions with hiring managers. The class meets Monday – Friday from 9am to 4pm, leaving ample time in the evenings and on the weekends to explore the area and attend events being held at development organizations. A DPMI Certificate is awarded after submission of a personal reflection paper, due three months following completion of DPMI.

Applications are due by Monday, March 26, 2007 and should be emailed to dpmi@miis.edu.
