Training Provider: Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS) School/Institute/Dept./Centre: Fisher Graduate School of International Business Students in the Two-Year MBA program have completed a wide variety of undergraduate studies in international relations, political science, area studies, languages, humanities, science and engineering. Most students have previously studied or worked abroad and have the equivalent of two years university-level language study. Non-native speakers of English have a minimum 550/213 TOEFL or a 6 IELTS score. International students with a three-year, full-time university bachelor's degree may qualify for the 21-month MBA program, entering in either August or January. Experienced students who do not choose to seek a summer internship may complete the program in 16 months by doing the business plan in the summer following the first year and taking additional courses during remaining semesters.

All Monterey MBA Students complete the International Business Core - a series of three courses distinctive for the international focus and applied approach to international business education. International Organizational Behavior is a foundation course focusing on the global business paradigm. Global Business Strategies prepares students to become effective business strategists. The International Business Plan is a team-based consulting project that students complete for a contracting company. Teams of students work with the sponsoring company, under faculty supervision, to develop a comprehensive plan for international business development. This capstone experience is one that students leverage in their future careers. Advanced Foreign LanguageTwo-Year MBA students complete three semesters of advanced foreign language study in one language. Students are required to be able to begin their advanced language study at the third-year college level at the minimum. Students who are not at the third-year college level or would like to begin a new language at the Monterey Institute must enroll in the MBA Plus Program. Standard languages include: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), English, French, German, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. Other languages may be requested during the Admissions process. If a request can be met the student will be assessed an additional fee per semester of language instruction. Students who are not at the third-year college level or would like to begin a new language at the Monterey Institute must enroll in the MBA-Plus program. Entry Requirements: General MBA Requirements (for all MBA programs): - US Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited college/university. (Students with three-year bachelor’s degrees must apply for the Two-Year MBA program.) - Minimum Grade Point Average of 3.0 on a 4.0. scale - Low Grade Point Average (GPA) Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 should contact the Enrollment Manager for FGSIB by e-mail at fgsib@miis.edu or call 831-647-6586 to discuss their options. - GMAT Score All applicants to FBSIB must submit official GMAT scores. - Work Experience Preference to candidates who have (or will have) a minimum of two years work experience at the time of enrollment. Two-Year MBA Program Requirements: - Language Requirement for Native Speakers of English: Two years of recent successful college-level language or the equivalent (except for Arabic) Arabic: 1 year for fall entry (1 ½ years for spring entry) of recent successful college-level language courses or the equivalent - Language Requirement for Non-native Speakers of English: It is presumed that non-native speakers of English will study English as their second language. Non-native speakers of English are required to provide proof of English proficiency by submitting scores from either the TOEFL or IELTS examinations. Advanced Entry MBA Program Admission Requirements: Applicants must have significant work experience and have completed the following prerequisite courses with a grade of B or better: Accounting (6 credits), Economics (6), Finance (3), Marketing (3), Operations Management (3), Organizational Theory (3), and Quantitative Methods (6). - Language Requirement for Native Speakers of English: Three years of recent successful college-level language or the equivalent (except for Arabic) Arabic: 2 years for fall entry (2 ½ years for spring entry) of recent successful college level language courses or the equivalent - Language Requirement for Non-native Speakers of English: It is presumed that non-native speakers of English will study English as their second language. Non-native speakers of English are required to provide proof of English proficiency by submitting scores from either the TOEFL or IELTS examinations. MBA Plus Programs Admissions Requirements: These programs are designed for native speakers of English with limited second language background. All admission requirements must be met for either the Two-Year or Advanced Entry MBA program, except for language. Applicants should contact the Enrollment Manager for FGSIB by e-mail at fgsib@miis.edu or call 831-647-6586 to discuss their language background and determine the best plan for meeting the language requirement prior to submitting an application. Summer enrollment in an intensive language program at the Monterey Institute or Middlebury College is typically required prior to enrollment. Peace Corps Master’s International MBA Admissions Requirements: This program is only available to US citizens in either the Two-Year or the Advanced Entry MBA program. Applicants must meet all the admissions requirements for their chosen program, including the language requirement. Students must apply to the Monterey Institute and the Peace Corps separately and concurrently. Applicants should visit www.peacecorps.gov to review application procedures. It is recommended that the applicants begin the Peace Corps application process several months in advance as it usually takes more time than the application process at the Monterey Institute. Non-degree Program Admission Requirements: Students who do not plan to study for a degree must meet the same requirements as those studying for a degree. Scholarships & Awards: A limited number of partial-tuition, merit-based scholarships are offered to prospective students applying to degree programs at the Monterey Institute. Monterey Institute Scholarships are administered through our Admissions Office. If you are admitted, you will be automatically considered for a merit based scholarship. A separate application is not required. Scholarship amounts range from $4,000 to $14,000. However, funds do run out, so you are encouraged to apply early for optimal scholarship consideration.
