There are no formal academic entry requirements for professional development programmes, although it is expected that all participants will have relevant work experience in their chosen area of study and sufficient English language skills to benefit from the programme

The International Development Department (IDD) is a global community, with students from over 30 different countries, dedicated to converting academic excellence into practical contributions to development and poverty reduction at local, national and international level.

IDD is part of the School of Public Policy at the University of Birmingham which is one of the largest centres for the study of the public sector in Europe with over 100 academic staff, and offers unique opportunities for exchange of experience on governance and public management between developed, developing and transitional countries.
