Due to the excellent level of the activities promoted and carried out, on the 8th of July 2005 the Institute was recognized by the Ministry of Education, University and Research as a "Scuola Superiore ad ordinamento speciale". Before, this recognition was only awarded to three other Schools devoted to Higher Education in Italy: Scuola Normale di Pisa, Scuola Superiore Sant´Anna and SISSA in Trieste. Unique in the completeness of its training fields, which allows a strong interdisciplinary approach, IUSS aims at contributing to the development of talented young people, offering them at any step of their higher education path, highly qualified training programs to enhance their capabilities and knowledge. The Institute is also committed to scientific progress and is therefore involved in preparing young researchers and developing research programs. The IUSS offers training and research activities as follows: 1. Internal courses open, on a merit base, to the most promising students of Pavia´s University; 2. II Level University Master degrees which are generally fully taught in English and have a strong International vocation. 3. PhD Degrees that provide an interdisciplinary point of view and exposure to cutting edge research. THE EUROPEAN SCHOOLS OF ADVANCED STUDIES (ESAS) The IUSS has established several European Schools of Advanced Studies aimed at providing highly specialized postgraduate-level programs (International University Master's programs) within a broad European educational network in order to meet today's professional requirements. In the academic year 2005/2006 seven International Master Programs will be held:

The IUSS in founding the School in Cooperation and Development joined three Italian NGOs: CISP – Comitato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo dei Popoli COOPI – Cooperazione Internazionale. VIS – Volontariato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo This strong partnership is an absolute innovation in the Italian and International array of Schools that provide training in Cooperation and Development. This joint venture is an essential feature of the School and one of the keys to our success. By bringing together academics and practitioners in the field of cooperation and development, it gives our students a complete and complex vision of what they will be studying at the School. Ever since its creation, 8 years ago, the School has been working in the field of training, university cooperation and research. Nowadays the School offers two Master Programs: one in Cooperation and Development and the other in Cooperation and International Economic Integration. More than 200 students have successfully graduated in past years and application to our courses increase more and more every year, mainly because we encourage application from candidates from all over the world and due to the fact that our Programs are completely taught in English. The School is also an active member of several institutional networks. It cooperates with European Universities and NGOs in providing postgraduate education in cooperation. It works together with Universities in Latin America and in the Middle East in promoting master programs in related subjects. The academic staff of the School is predominantly active in research activities, especially in the fields of development economics, human development and inequality. Results 1 - 1 of 1
