A network of more than 70 first class trainers equips journalists and media executives with the professional stock-in-trade to fulfil their role as communicators, mobilizing agents and watchdogs and make their media a vital civic forum in a pluralistic democratic society. The specific aim of NSJ as a non-governmental organization is to enhance the skills and professionalism of mid-career journalists and other media practitioners and media trainers in Southern Africa. The broader vision is one of Southern Africa’s citizens being still better informed and equipped in order to participate actively in the formation of just and democratic societies. Today NSJ is Southern Africa’s most important regional mid-career training institution for journalists and media managers. Most of the NSJ courses consists of two-week sessions that cover varying topics related to knowledge, skills and attitudes of media practitioners.
