The Centre for Development Studies is located mainly in the Department of Economics of the University of Glasgow and is responsible for co-ordinating and developing teaching and research in development studies. It offers a series of integrated taught programmes providing specialist postgraduate training in a variety of areas of contemporary concern, designed to meet the needs of those involved with and interested in problems and policies in developing countries. (University of Glasgow) Training Provider: University of Glasgow The programme of study leading to the degree of MSc in Project Planning and Development Policy Analysis is designed for:
1. those intending to pursue careers as economic planners; 2. the professional planning staff of Ministries concerned with the design and implementation of development plans (especially in developing countries);
3. those working in this subject area in international agencies or academic and research institutes.
The emphasis of the course is on mixed economy systems typical of developing countries.
The Diploma in Project Planning and Development Policy Analysis places less emphasis on research training than does the MSc programme, but will, nonetheless, provide a thorough grounding in the policy issues and techniques of analysis in this area, and will be appropriate for a range of career options in the fields of planning and development policy.  MSc/Diploma in Management - Development Policy
(University of Glasgow) Training Provider: University of Glasgow The MSc in Management (Development Policy) is organised jointly by the Centre for Development Studies and the Department of Management as part of the range of MSc programmes offered by Glasgow Business School. The Business School was recently awarded the prestigious accreditation of AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Fewer than ten per cent of business schools in the world have earned this accreditation and it is testimony to the excellent standards of teaching and research that have been achieved in the Business School. The programme is designed for those seeking to develop a career in management in development-related organisations, such as government agencies, non-government organisations and multilateral donors. The core component of this programme comprises three courses from the Department of Management and one course from the Centre for Development Studies, which also delivers a choice of development-oriented courses. The Diploma in Management (Development Policy) places less emphasis on research training than does the MSc programme, but will, nonetheless, provide a thorough grounding in management techniques and methods of analysis, and their applications to development policy issues. and the Centre for Development Studies. They aim to provide a unified treatment of corporate financial behaviour and the economic behaviour of the international monetary system.
The MSc programme is designed for those wishing to enter, or who are already in, professions which require an expert knowledge of international finance and economic policy.
The Diploma places less emphasis on research training than does the MSc programme, but will, nonetheless, provide a thorough grounding in the policy issues and techniques of analysis in this area, and will be appropriate for a range of career options in the field of international finance and economic policy.  MSc/Diploma in International Banking and Finance

The needs of such economists tend to be twofold: an advanced understanding of the debates in macroeconomic theory and policy from an international perspective; and a detailed knowledge of finance and monetary policy in a developing country context.
