The University of Sussex is a leading research institution with strengths across a broad range of disciplines. The University’s tradition of interdisciplinarity is reflected in the organisation of graduate studies within its schools, which brings subjects together, encourages intellectual exchange across disciplines, and creates a sense of community for graduate students. The schools arrange seminars, promote conferences, welcome well-known research visitors from overseas, foster research clusters and circulate research papers and other publications.

We run a graduate assistantship scheme for doctoral students. Under this scheme, which provides financial support at least equal to a home/EU fee, doctoral students in many subjects have the opportunity of doing paid undergraduate teaching alongside their research work. This is particularly attractive to students who are contemplating a career in academia.
