Contributed by The Editors
|
(2004) edited by Thandika Mkandawire
This is an edited volume of contributions from a wide range of experts in the field, and an output of a five-year research programme at the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD).
The chapters provide much-needed conceptual discussions, as well as analyses of central issues pertaining to rationales for social policy and its role in development.
This volume will be of interest to all students of development, and particularly those interested in international social policy and development, as well as comparative social policy.
Cover description: Drawing upon both conceptual and empirical evidence, this volume argues the case for the centrality of social policy in development, focusing particularly on the message that social policy needs to be closely intertwined with economic policy. It is argued that social policy can provide the crucial link between economic development poverty eradication and equity. This volume is a significant contribution to thinking about social policy in a development context.
