Studying Development: Books and Reviews(2001) by Nicola Yeates
This text offers a critical appraisal of how globalization affects the social policy-making process. Approaching this interaction from a governance perspective, the author takes issue with a variety of perspectives, yet focusses her analysis on interplay between old as well as novel political forces that shape an expanded policy arena.

Her analysis suggests a more nuanced perspective on the impact of globalization on previously "domestic" policy-making. Both constraints as well as opportunities are identified, and the analysis points to the continued role of national politics in mediating the way that globalization is "received".

This is a very readable yet in-depth account, providing compelling reading. The author has also included a useful list of websites.
