A book review with some Jamaican experiences in innovation
Contributed by The Jamaica Observer
A new book entitled "Innovation: Applying Knowledge in Development", coordinated by Calestous Juma and Lee Yee-Cheong for the UN Millenium Project Task Force on Science, Technology, and Innovation, makes the link between science and innovation on the one hand and international development on the other and proposes a definition of innovation in a development context.
The book outlines key areas for policy action, including a focus on generic technologies, defining infrastructure services as foundations for technology, placing universities at the heart of local development and improving science education, spurring entrepreneurial activities, improving the policy environment and focusing on areas of under-funded research for development.
The article also provides information on concrete initiatives related to science and development in Jamaica.
